Gators Beat Dayton by Run Rule

It’s very frequently great to be a Florida Gator, but it is especially so today. To start the 3-game home series, the Gators popped 11 runs on the heads of the University of Dayton Flyers. The game ended after 7 innings by run rule. Over the first five games for the now 5-0 Gators, it’s the second time that a game has been won by run rule. The Flyers will do their best to limit the damage through today and tomorrow.

One of the most effective players thus far for the Gators has been USF transfer Bobby Boser. The ex-bull, who you can read more about here, has been dominant. He showed this yesterday by hitting one over the fence to open the scoring, also bringing home Hayden Yost (who was already on base). On the day, Boser hit the home run, reached first on a passed ball strikeout, walked, and struck out across four plate appearances.

Across the first two innings, the Orange and Blue put up six runs on Dayton. Notably, Brody Donay couldn’t continue his home run streak. Five games was unfortunately a bit too much for the SEC Player of the Week, even though he put up two runs on the game. Every single starting Gator put up a hit in the game, with a total ten hits.

The Orange and Blue eventually got the job done by putting up six runs in the sixth, to bring the game to a close via run rule. The final score was 13-1, with Dayton’s lone run coming in the top of the sixth. They could’ve scored more, but they were caught stealing both times they attempted to do so. There was also good resistance from the end of the Gators, with starter Liam Peterson pitching four innings to the tune of zero runs.

One of the brighter moments for Florida today came in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it style. Christian Rodriguez (or C-Rod), a redshirt freshman pitcher, made his return from Tommy John surgery. Rodriguez pitched a scoreless inning in relief to close out the game, and he’ll surely be a bright spot for the Gators in the near future. The Gators play Dayton today and at 1pm tomorrow.
