Player Intro: Blake Cyr

Florida secured a big commitment in the summer transfer portal from Miami transfer Blake Cyr. The junior slugger was one of the most coveted players in the transfer portal. Measuring 5’11 and mostly playing infield, Cyr played two seasons for Miami before deciding that his time was probably spent best at a University that’s actually good at baseball. He’s set to be one of the Gators best players in 2025, but he’s yet to have a single plate appearance for the Gators.

Blake Cyr committed to Miami four years before enrolling in 2018. Out of Windermere, FL, he was a top prospect in high school and came close to declaring for the draft. However, he chose to attend Miami for two years. His first year was nothing short of incredible: he hit at a clip of .306 and earned Freshman All-American honors. He truly was a gem in the making. He was one of the only reasons Miami made the NCAA tournament, where they subsequently lost to Texas.

Unfortunately, Cyr didn’t have a great sophomore season. He had a slow(er) start, hitting at .284, before unfortunately breaking his thumb. Even though the draft was calling his name, Cyr still wanted to play college ball. After a transfer portal which attracted interest from top teams, he eventually committed to the good guys and is ready to be a big player in his junior season for the Gators.

In reality, how could it not be a great season? In my opinion, Blake Cyr is one of many Gators players ready for big success this season. I truly believe that when the Gators are in crunch time and every plate appearance counts, Blake Cyr is the guy you want in the box.
