Spring Training Report 1/24

The Florida Gators officially opened their doors to the public today, starting their first Spring Training scrimmage. The Orange beat the Blue 5-1 in a 6-inning outing. 3 of Orange’s runs came courtesy of a 3-run blast by Brody Donay, a junior ready to start his second year for the Gators. Donay, who originally played for the Virginia Tech Hokies, hit at a clip of .246 last season for the Gators. He hit massive home runs last season and clearly seems ready to do the same again.

Even more impressively, the home run was hit off of right-handed pitcher Liam Peterson. Peterson, coming off a 2024 season which resulted in an SEC All-Freshman selection, is set to be high in the starting rotations for the 2025 Gators. The 6’5 sophomore out of Cavalry Christian High School will play a massive role in whether the Gators get to Omaha.

Overall a strong first day of practice for the Gators, who are warming up for a possibly historic 2025 season.
